Clinical Psychologist: Luciana Romano (she / her)

“What are some of the challenges you’re especially interested in supporting people through"

I’m especially interested in supporting people through a range of emotional and life challenges, including anxiety, depression, and stress.

I work with individuals navigating relationship difficulties and challenges with emotion regulation, as well as those experiencing grief and loss. I also support parents and families through the complexities that can arise in family life.

I have a strong interest in working with neurodivergent individuals, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and I value creating a space that feels respectful, supportive, and attuned to each person’s unique experience.

What made you choose psychology (or your role) in the first place?

I was drawn to psychology through a genuine passion for helping others and a deep fascination with human behaviour. I’ve always been curious about how people think, feel, and make sense of their experiences, especially during times of challenge or change.

Choosing this path of becoming a Gold Coast Clinical Psychologist felt like a natural way to combine that curiosity with meaningful, person-centred work. I value being able to support people in understanding themselves more deeply, building insight, and finding ways to move forward that feel aligned with who they are.

What types of people do you feel most drawn to working with — and what lights you up about that work?

I feel drawn to working with children (aged 6+), adolescents, and adults, and I really value the diversity that comes with supporting people across different stages of life.

What lights me up about this work is being part of that process—I believe that everyone has the potential for personal growth at any stage of their lives.

What’s something you wish more people knew about the work you do?

I wish more people knew that therapy is about hope, empowerment, and growth — not just mental illness. While I do support people through mental health challenges, therapy is also a space for self-understanding, reflection, and building a more meaningful and balanced life.

It’s about helping people reconnect with their strengths, make sense of their experiences, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence in themselves.

Who do you think tends to feel most comfortable working with you?

Many of the people I connect with appreciate a warm, down-to-earth approach and want to feel understood without pressure or judgement.

Outside of qualifications, what personal strengths do you bring into your work?

Outside of my qualifications, I bring resilience, creativity, and empathy into my work. These strengths help me stay present and grounded with clients, even in complex or challenging moments.

I also value thinking creatively about each person’s needs, and bringing genuine empathy to every interaction so people feel understood, supported, and met where they are at.

What’s something about you that might surprise people?

Before studying psychology, I worked as a dietitian, a food technologist, and even a cake maker.

It’s a background that might surprise people, but it reflects my long-standing interest in people, behaviour, and the connection between wellbeing and everyday life.
